Round 2 - U15 Girls

What a difference a week makes, the weather today, unlike last week, was superb for football...as were our players as they put on another solid display at home against the Brunswick Zebras. The girls had a resounding 3-1 victory creating many chances and dominating the possession for most of the match.

The girls in defence played well enabling the midfield to dominate proceedings with nice free flowing passing and attacking in the first half. Doncaster Rovers went in 1-0 at half time thanks to a nice finish by Rachel who carefully squeezed her shot between the goal keeper and the post. After some good words of wisdom from Coach Lee the girls came out stronger in the second half and were very quickly up 2-0 after another great run and finish by Rachel. The best was yet to come as our defender Liz drove home a great and exciting third goal. We did concede a late soft goal and missed lots of chances to go further ahead with our shooting, composure on the ball and our ability to kick with both feet letting us down at times. Something for the girls to sort on the training track I am sure...

A couple of other highlights from today were:-
Both Jordan Moloney and Sarah Jane Jernigan played their first game with the team. Their work ethic was fantastic, great game and well done to both girls
Holly for her improved goal kicking, I think she nearly made the half way mark on one kick - Well done Holly, I know you have been practicing this and the hard work is paying off.

Coaches match review - Lee thought all girls played well but gave special mentions to Liz, Narin and Rachel for their exceptional performances today
Courage, hard running and tackling by all the girls and for playing the game with good conduct and spirit
Thanks to Alice, Carmen and Jordy for going on the bench for the U16A girls team after our game. The girls all got a run at various times in the second half playing well and with confidence as they supported the U16 girls to a 8-0 win against the Casey Comets.

Congratulations to the girls and their coach Lee for another great performance, they are now second on the Ladder but it is early in the season and next week we have a tough game away to Kensington, a team the girls were defeated by twice last year.

See you all on the training pitch this week.

Regards,
Andrew
