Doncaster 4-0 Richmond
Sunday's season-opener against a spirited Richmond started as frenetic affair, as both teams tried to impose their strengths against each other. Doncaster settled first and started to knock the ball around and after 10 minutes a cross-field ball from Ben was controlled by Cameron, who took a step forward and unleashed a superb drive from 25 yards, into the the roof of the net. Doncaster continued to apply pressure and following a sweet turn and cross by Nadeem, Cameron was on hand to tap in a second.
As the first half was coming to an end, another cross was knocked in, but Richmond could only clear to the edge of the penalty area, where Damien was waiting to hit a left footed shot passed the Richmond keeper.
The second half started with Richmond showing more vigour and after 7 minutes were rewarded with a penalty. As the kick was taken, Ash in goal made a great save, and held onto the ball. Doncaster then picked up the pace and started playing some very nice football. Getting back on top, a number of good chances were created with James and Julian both coming close, until a run from Damien from just inside Richmonds half saw their defence part like the Red Sea, then from the edge of the area, slotted the ball into the top right-hand corner.
The whole team played extremely well, competing for every ball and playing some nice two-touch manouvers. The back four looked very solid, the midfield battled all game and the forwards ran tirelessy, creating openings that were exploited to good effect. Well done boys !
