Round 10 - U15 A Boys

U15A Doncaster Rovers vs Ringwood 19th July

On a fine sunny day Rovers took on Ringwood at Anderson Park with the intention of putting another solid win on the board.
We began with Luke in goal, Chris S was sweeping, Chris T and Daniel were playing as twin Central Defenders whilst Steve and York were playing as wide wing backs on the left and right respectively. Nick was Central Midfielder, flanked by Alex on the right and Drew on the left with Matt V and Nick V as twin strikers.
Ringwood kicked off but in an instant Rovers took the ball forwards where Matt V ran onto it and had our first shot at goals. The ball squeezed underneath the sprawling keeper and rolled in for our first with 30 seconds on the clock! Ringwood hit back with some good passing and had a wide shot on goal. On the kick in Luke was penalized for taking too long but the Ringwood free-kick was easily blocked. The ball was travelling from end to end with reasonable passing from both sides but breakdown in front of goal. Luke was very solid in goals with all the defenders, especially the two Chris’s chipping in to stop most of the Ringwood attacks. Rovers controlled the midfield also, but could not find the goals. Elliott and Mitch came on with several good runs and crosses not quite finding their mark. Alex was in the play with a cross to Steve whose shot was blocked. Soon after York made a good run down the right, and from 25 metres out struck the ball cleanly only to hit the cross bar, Matt V headed the rebound but straight at the keeper.
With only 30 seconds on the clock Matt V made another strong run at goal but was brought down just inside the box. Nik took the resulting penalty and put the ball away. So against the wind Rovers managed to “bookend” the half and be well placed at half-time.

Half-time score: Rovers 2 : Ringwood 0

The second half started out like the first with Rovers attacking straight away. The ball lobbed into the box where arms and legs were going everywhere, however Steve coolly slotted the ball into goals where it just crossed the line, despite arguments by the Ringwood Keeper to the contrary. The Ref blew his whistle and correctly awarded the goal and we had another on the board. Rovers continued to dominate most of the play with some of the Ringwood defense wilting under pressure. Nik had a big throw from the side line and York was able to run onto the ball and head the bouncing ball into the back of the net. As usual Elliott was making the Ringwood forwards really earn their kicks and gave away a few free kicks, one of which Luke saved with a clean grab. In fact Luke chose the right option all day with many fine saves and defensive punches clearing the lines.
On one of Luke’s long kick the ball bounced right up to goal where Mitch ran onto the ball and chipped the ball past the keeper to keep the scoreboard ticking over nicely for Rovers.
Dion, Michael P and Matt D came on, with all players getting a fair share of the ball. Michael P had a shot at goal but went too high, soon after Alex passed to Michael but the ball ran on with the wind. Drew put in a pass to Chris S who had a powerful crack from 35 metres out which the keeper just managed to save down low.
Ringwood still managed to threaten with the midfielders passing the ball around but their shots were wide. Finally Elliott took a corner but the ball sailed over the back of the net as the Ref blew his whistle for full-time. While we looked a bit loose at times we were able to keep good forward momentum this week with better value in our shots at goal. It makes the effort so much more rewarding for players and supporters.

Scores at full-time: Rovers 5 : Ringwood 0

ROVERS –next week we play Glen Waverley away so let’s keep the goals coming.
