U14A Brandon Park vs Doncaster Rovers 20th July
Proudly sponsored by Wet Water Pools
On a typical winters day with a cold wind favouring the south end the boys set out to play Brandon Park on a damp but good pitch. Many parents had travelled down Eastlink to arrive in record time, in fact Nick Vass’s grandparents had arrived so early they were in time for breakfast!
The squad was still depleted with the absence of both Jansen & Drew due to injury, but welcomed back Joel after a couple of weeks.
Kicking with the wind it did not take Rovers long to dominate the play with good passing at the feet a feature all over the ground. Chains of passes forwards kept the BP goalie on his toes as several shots went long with the wind. Eventually Chris passed across to Steve who passed back to Chris who calmly slotted the ball in from close range. First goal to Rovers. In midfield Phil, Chris, Alex and Dion were well on top creating many chances for Steve and Nick V who were creating a lot of play also. In Defence, or in reality across the midfield, Matt, Nik D, Elliot and Michael Pic were repelling any forward moves by BP and making some good runs forward to keep up the pressure.
In a run against play BP scrambled the ball forwards with the ball holding up into the wind Luke could not reach the ball before BP tapped the ball in to level the scores. With Rovers players first to the ball it did not take long for further strikes at goal but all went over the top. Elliot was having a blinder down the left wing and after a couple of passes between Elliot and Steve, Elliot had a great opportunity to cross the ball, and with the advantage of the wind, the ball went over the keepers outstretched fingers into the net. When it is your day you always take them! Soon after Nik D and Alex both had shots at goal and Phil a header that just missed.
Half – time: Brandon Park 1 : Doncaster Rovers 2
After the break Rovers kept up the teamwork with many instances of excellent team play keeping the parents hands warm with applause for the good efforts. A great run by Matt up the right wing allowed Nick V to pass across to Alex who had time to weigh up his shot and place the ball wide of the keeper for a great team goal. Not to be outdone by good work on the right wing, Elliot ran from the half-way line on the left wing beat two men then “rifled” a shot so hard into the net the goal posts lifted up 100mm!! This was definitely GOAL of the Day!
Michael Pal replaced Dion and was soon under notice with some good passes and crosses that kept BP all at sea like a ship without a rudder. Shortly after Alex opened up the defense with a good pass to Phil who stopped, propped and went Bang for another Rovers goal. I think Phil was taking lessons from Rooney (aka Elliot)!!
Joel replaced Alex and then Dion was reintroduced to replace Nik D who was intent on discussing the games finer points with the Ref. Rovers kept on pressing with good teamwork and passing to the feet all over the ground as every player contributed to the excellent display that was well appreciated by all parents at the ground. Boys keep up your style of play and listen to Steve because your improvement through the year is great to witness. A rewarding future is in your hands if you maintain your efforts throughout the season.
Scores at full-time: Brandon Park 1 : Doncaster Rovers 5

Round 13 - U10 Blue - Match Report
DATE: 19.07.08
OPPONENTS: GLEN WAVERLEY
LOCATION: ANDERSON PARK
A COMMANDING WIN BY THE BLUES
The team gathered at our home ground for our official team photos. It was good to see Justin back from his jet setting trip for our photo session but the jet lag took its toll and he retired for the day for some well earned rest.
After our squad faced a sea of paparazzi and media, they were ready for some action on the park.
There was an initial scare for the Blues in the first few minutes where the opposition threatened to score but we regained control of the ball and started passing it well.
Declan did well with some good clearances in the backline and nice passing in midfield as did Alexander applying pressure in defense and later on having a couple of shots on goal up forward. Corey and Billy controlled the backline well cutting off the oppositions attacks as did Ethan who rejoined the team this week and applied his usual pressure. Stefan again controlled with some big clearances when Glen Waverley were pushing forward and contributing around the park.
James had a few very near misses on goal which had the near capacity home crowd on the edge of their seats.
The first half finished with a score of 0-0 as it did the first time these two teams met in Round 2 (3/5/08).
The second half started off with both teams firing and playing with a purpose.
Damian did a lot of running applying pressure in midfield but helping out in defense and up forward. Michael gave the opposition headaches with his strong challenges for the ball. The Blues did some great passing and created many chances but also kept the pressure on.
Jake once again ran up and down the right wing with a lot of possession of the ball and running well around his opponents. Maybe the chocolate crackles his mum provided for his birthday are his secret weapon. Tim also ran well with the ball on the left wing and with a great pass provided to him by Jack he opened the score 1-0 to Doncaster. Jack played well up forward and had a few cracking shots on goal but the ball just didn’t go over the line. Marko showed good control and commanded his troops well especially during the opposition’s corners where our packed defense made it hard for them to score. He also gave the crowd some worrying moments during Glen Waverley’s attacks but in the end had some good saves and distributed the ball well.
James made some fine passing runs and created some nice plays. He had at least five great shots on goal that should have gone in, one even hitting the post with the ball then rolling across the length of the goal just in front of the line but the ball just didn’t find the back of the net.
With a fine run past a few opposition players and a clever shot on goal Tim scored his second for the day. The whole team played well and with some nice passing and running with the ball, combined with some big clearances were able to finish with a final score exactly the same as the first time these two teams met of Doncaster 2 Glen Waverly 0 even though it should have been at least a few more goals Doncaster’s way.
John Peter and Christopher in Greece will no doubt be happy with this news whilst they work on their tans.
Well done boys, keep up the good work.
See you all at training. (Wed. 5.30pm)
