U15 Girls Season Wrap

Another great season for the Doncaster U15 girls has come to a close and I am sure you will agree with me that they performed well with a top four finish after being promoted from C grade last year.

Below is the final match report :-

What contrasting tales we had in the last two matches, in round 17 we were beaten at home by Borroondara 2-0 in what would have to be the girls worst performance of the season. The less said about this match the better as everyone was slow and off their game except for Rachel and Carmen who fought hard all day. The girls were 2-0 down at half time and after a strong talking to by coach Lee they lifted in the second half but were still unable to score.

We were then off to Port Melbourne in round 18 for our final game and with nothing to lose or gain (we had already finished 4th no matter what the result) the girls were determined to turn things around and finish on a high...and what a finish it was...they played some of their best football of the season and won 7-0. They did this without coach Lee who had injured his foot the day before with the senior team.

The girls were 1-0 up at half time and were dominating the game. Our first goal game from an absolute cracker from Jordan Moloney who tuned on a bouncing ball on the edge of the area and absolutely hammered home a sensational strike. Carmen also had a great long range strike hit the post but unfortunately it came back into play. The girls came in at half time and were very confident that they could take it to Port Melbourne in the second half and they certainly walked the talk with a 6 goal second half. One of the pleasing things was the way they pushed the ball around, even the defence was pushing the ball backwards and sideways with confidence rather than clearing kicks. This is something Lee has been talking to them about in training and it was pleasing to see it in action in this game. Natasha and Carmen were dominating the central midfield and this enabled us to use the full width of the pitch as Jordy , Cristina, Bella, Alice and Adriana were able to use the width of the pitch to stretch open Port Melbourne's defence. Kelsey scored 2 great goals, one with another fast run that left the Port Melbourne defence in her wake and then she calmly shot the ball past the keeper. Jordan Moloney scored again and then set up Carmen with a great cross that was headed home like a true professional. The girls were on fire... so we pushed Liz and Narin forward to the striker role and Jordan Moloney and Carmen to defence. Liz then also slotted home a nice goal... what a way to finish the season. All girls played well and showed versatility as most of them moved around to play different positions in the second half.

Overall another great season for the girls, I have attached a file that shows each games result along with the final ladder below. Some statistics are :-
Won 10 matches, drew 3 and lost 5
The girls scored 54 goals and conceded 26 giving them a better goal difference than Boroondara who finished third
They scored more goals than Berwick and Boroondara and were only out scored by Kensington
Finished 4th Overall
Had 100,000+ conversations throughout the season..there is no doubt they could talk to each other under water!
Another great season comes to and end and the rover girls had a competitive season where they had fun, worked hard and learnt some great skills and strategies form Lee. They all grew as players throughout the season and we hope to see them all back at the club next year. A special well done to Rachel and Narin for their leadership roles as Captain and Vice Captain.

Thanks to Lee, Rosa and all the parents for supporting the team and for helping me with all the duties.
