Round 17 - U15 A Boys

U15A Casey vs Doncaster Rovers 30th August

The second last game of the year for Rovers against the bottom team was as much about attitude as anything else. We had the skills, pace and height advantages, could we also win the contests and put Casey away as expected? The BOM report was a cold cross wind but no rain.
We started with Luke in goal and I would have to say his new outfit including black tights was very dapper, York sweeping, Chris T and Daniel playing as twin Central Defenders whilst Elliott and Steve were playing as wide wing backs on the left and right respectively. Nik was the Central Midfielder, flanked by Drew on the right and Chris S on the left with Matt V and Alex as twin strikers. Rovers took control of the play right from the start with Nik dictating terms in the midfield, the defense well on top and both forwards getting plenty of ball. With some good passing right across the field Casey were under the pump and could only bomb the ball anywhere and give a few shoves along the way. The Ref did not stand for any crude play or crude words either! Rovers received two frees in a row for pushing at contested balls and Nik took the free from 15 metres out to elude the wall and the keeper putting the ball in the far right side of the net for a quick opener. Rovers increased their tempo and soon Matt V won a good contest just in front to put the ball away, however the Ref was on the ball and awarded a handball to Casey. Alex passed to Drew but his shot went wide. Then Matt V’s shot went in but he was judged to be offside. York, Chris, Daniel, Steve and Elliott were well on top and the ball was rebounding faster than you could blink.
Mitch came on and was straight into the action. Another good passage of play when Alex trapped the ball and passed off to Drew whose well weighted pass found Mitch running into space. Mitch ran at the keeper and perfectly side-footed around him for our second goal. More forward moves were made as Alex crossed to Mitch but his well timed header went straight to the keeper. Casey received a rare free kick but Nik chipped the ball away and received a silly yellow card. Soon after this Mitch fought hard to win the ball, just over the half-way line, beat his man and again take on the keeper. Once again his well placed shot found the back of the net. Mitch appeared to be on fire in more ways than one!!

Half-time score: Casey 0 : Rovers 3

Rovers were into the wind but still had most of the play with many promising forward moves down both flanks. Matt V passed to Alex who passed back to Matt V, his cross was perfect for Matt D but his header went wide. Dion came on and was soon involved in positive passages of play including receiving a couple of frees for poor tackles. Chris received a free on the grandstand wing for another clumsy tackle and his long ball into the box bounced before the keeper, the ball rolled into his hands and out of his hands for the “Long Range” goal of the year. Mind you if the keeper could jump off the ground this would not have happened!
Casey received a red card for mouthing off at the Ref again. More good play ensued with Pala putting in a nice cross, Dion having a couple of shots and Nick V getting into the play. Our intensity dropped away towards the finish as the game was well and truly over. Luke almost had to earn his money when Casey hit the crossbar from a free, but this was as close as they got. The Ref blew the whistle and we could contemplate the drive back to civilization to somewhere warmer and more inviting.

Scores at full-time: Casey 0 : Doncaster Rovers 4
