DONCASTER ROVERS U9’s
‘ The Blues Twos’
‘Stunning strike not enough to lift the Blues’
Saturday 4 August (Away)
v. Bulleen
At full strength, we approached the game against Bulleen with a determination to take the game to them, and not to be overawed by their unbeaten 2 year record.
In what was a very competitive game, our tactics to bite into tackles and get the ball forward as quickly as possible certainly put them under pressure.
However, falling 2 goals behind midway through the first half, only made us raise our game. A quick break through the midfield and a neat pass from Alex set up Ari, who struck a wonderful, sweet shot into the bottom corner from an acute angle, bringing it back to 2 – 1.
Going in at half-time, we knew they were feeling the pressure, quickly moving men behind the ball as we began to gain the upper hand territorially.
The first goal of the second half would be vital, but despite some near misses and a couple of good saves, we were unable to equalise.
As we pushed forward, Bulleen made us pay with 2 further goals, leaving us valiant in a 4 – 1 defeat.
This was not a true reflection of the game, as we fought and competed well and with a little more luck in front of goal and decisions our way, could quite easily come away with a result.
All the team played very well. Kirk on his comeback was again solid, whilst James, Justin, Jeremy, Lochie, Peter, Jack, Ari, Alex, Jonathon and Josh all played their part up and down the pitch.
We’ll have them next season boys!!!!!
