Doncaster Rovers Soccer Club Announces

These 4 MVFC players confirmed for Saturday 19 April
Archie Thompson
Michael Theoklitos
Steve Pantelidis
Grant Brebner

What time are they coming? Not Telling!

Just be at the ground and enjoy yourself, eat some nice food and let the kids have a kick. But if you come to late you could miss them!

We expect them to hang around 2 hours!

Also please have your kids come dressed for training in their soccer gear as skills based sessions and play matches will be going all day with their coaches etc (shin guards a must) MUST Bring their runners as well.

Registration Times You can arrive at the club ANYTIME. Just because your registration time says 1.00pm or 2pm it doesn't mean that you can't arrive at 10am and enjoy the day.

In fact I recommend that you do arrive early to get full exposure to the day. Otherwise you could miss out on certain activities.
Please forward this email to members of the club you know who might not be getting this email and tell members you know who dont have email about it by telephone.

Volunteers
Please put your hand to help out on this day as all people doing work here will be volunteers. If we find that we do not have support in the volunteering department then these sorts of days will go in the 2 hard basket.

2007 Season Opener: President's Match Report

Close to 600 people came to Anderson Park to witness the start of the State League season with the Rovers playing Diamond Valley under lights.

The proceedings kicked off with the Rovers reserves, runners up the past 2 seasons, going in at half time level with the Valley 1 all after having taken an early lead. After the break our young reserves went behind to a second goal but then pinned the opposition into their half and deservedly got the equaliser they were looking for.

In the seniors the local rivalry with near neighbours Diamond Valley was as ferocious as ever with some exuberant tackling being the order of the day. Rovers played some slick soccer in the early exchanges and dominated the start of the game. Midway through the first half they got the goal they were searching for with new signing Tony Alessandrino releasing a shot from close range. Valley fought back and launched numerous attacks but Rovers looked more likely to get a second on the break as the first half wore on.

With Valley pushing forward in the first half searching for the equaliser a long ball was sent towards the Rovers penalty area and as players went up for the ball the Referee whistled for a hand ball and gave a penalty. The decision was keenly disputed as it was maintained by the Rovers that the ball had hit the chest of the defender. Ex - Rover Tony Guiliano took the spot kick and scored putting the ball just wide of the outstretched arms of the Rovers keeper Manny Pappas.

In the second half the intensity increased and 10 minutes the Valley midfielder had an altercation with Jason Vukadin the strong Rovers defender, from the ensuing pushing and shoving the Referee gave a Red Card to the Diamond Valley player. Rovers pushed forward with wave after wave of attack as they looked to take advantage of having an extra man however Valley was resolute till the end and held on for a 1-1 draw.

There was a wonderful atmosphere through out the game under the lights at Anderson Park and we look forward to more of the Rovers home games on Friday nights.

Doncaster Rovers now takes on South Springvale away at Warner Reserve (Melway Map 80 A8) Virginia Street, Springvale this Saturday 21st April 2007. Reserves at 1pm and Seniors at 3pm.
