1969 Past Player story

Hi,

My name is Paul McRobert, I used to be called Paul Bullivant prior to my parents divorce and moving to South Australia with my mother. Having said that, I still have very fond memories of my time as a junior player with Doncaster Rovers. I started in 1969 in the under 12’s coached by Wally Garonski and managed by Jim Rapson. We were a very successful team, which featured players such as myself, David and Jimmy Ave, Ian Gartside, Peter Brown and Paul Desmond. Over the next 5 years (1974 was my last year before moving interstate), I played alongside the likes of the Rankins, Robert Foster, Robert Dawson, Gary Dunnicliffe, David Gow, Amelio Anselma and the Humbles. We had some great players/results over that period and although not being there, I have usually checked the results in the paper wherever possible.

I would be really keen to get in touch with anyone who was involved with Donny in those days and my still be around the place. Occasionally I do manage to get over to Melbourne and would love to meet up with some of my old team mates and watch the seniors play. If there is anyone still at the club from those days of the early 70’s, I would love to hear from them and try and organise a get together at some stage.

Since leaving Doncaster Rovers, I moved to the South East of South Australia to a place called Mount Gambier and played senior soccer up to around age 42 (obviously the standard is a bit lower than over there and I was able to keep going until the body finally said enough). I have also had around 15 years junior coaching experience and have 6 years experience as a senior coach.

These days my two sons both play, one has just moved to Adelaide to play and my younger son has just broken into the seniors at Inter. I no longer have any active involvement, preferring to just go and watch my sons play. Because of this arrangement, I am free to get away on weekends for the first time in quite some decades.

Once again I would love to get in touch with some of the old boys from the mighty Doncaster Rovers also, should any reunions ever be planned for players and supporters of those far off days. I would love to be contacted. I can be contacted on this email address or by mobile number 0438 811 561.
