Doncaster Rovers vs Glen Waverley 24th August

On an overcast but fine day it was a pleasant change to watch the game in relative comfort without the biting wind of recent weeks. Rovers started without Alex and Steve so only had one lad on the pine. Rovers started the game with most of the play as the defence were on top where Luke, Matt, Nik, Michael Pic and Joel were on top. Across the centres Chris, Phil, Dion and Drew were putting in passes to Nick Vass and Michael Pal who were attacking the goals. GW were able to resist for the first 15 minutes but most of their play was wild kicks out of defence to anywhere allowing the ball to come back every time.
After several good build ups by Rovers that were saved by the keeper, finally the boys ran forwards with Drew passing to Dion who tapped across to Michael Pal for a quick strike into the back of the net. The ball remained in the GW half as several corners were taken by Chris and then Elliot who substituted Chris. On one corner Nik put in a good header but it went straight to the keeper. The passing to the feet was a feature of Rovers play as they had possession for most of the half, with several good passages of play and were in complete control of the game. After several through balls Drew was able to run past his opponent and at the keeper, his shot from the box was deflected by the keeper straight to Michael Pal who again slotted the goal from 3 metres out.
Half – time: Rovers 2 : Glen Waverley 0
Rovers kept on where they left off with good runs down the right by Matt who combined with Drew and down the left where Chris was unpassable and Elliot also had several good runs. On one run the ball was taken in by Elliot and Chris finished off the scrambled play in the box with a goal, only to be disallowed by the Ref. The Ref said later he should have allowed it! At least he was good enough to admit his mistake.
Shortly after Elliot made one of his “trademark” runs down the left wing past several GW players to beat the keeper for a good goal. All the team was well on top and contributing to great teamwork all over the ground. Obviously the defence had it too easy as several of them buttered up to play in the next game U15A against Richmond, where Luke was B.O.G.!! But I digress, because this report is about the U14A’s.
Several more chances went begging due to off-side and a couple of shots that went to the keeper. However for the most part the game was good to watch as the skill level of all the boys has definitely picked up since the start of the season. We now look forward to a good display against Knox to finish off the season.
Full-time: Rovers 3 : Glen Waverley 0

Round 17 - U10 Yellow - Match Report
Proudly sponsored by ATOMICA COFFEE
Season nears the end.
Saturday 23 August (home) v. Berwick.
The squad on duty:- Kirk, Jonathon M, Jonathan S, Jeremy, Anton, Jason, James, Yanni, Jacob, Alex, Matthew, Matty, Lachie, Ari and Josh.
After a full and comprehensive workout prior to the game, the boys were primed for their last home game of the season.
A few tactical changes, and no camera man to cover the action, we began brightly and were soon in front. Neat work down the right from James, Matthew and Alex, set up Josh to slot home the opener.
We continued to play well when we looked to pass the ball quickly, and soon doubled our lead when a similar move down the left. Alex again put Josh in for his second.
James looked composed at the back, and we went in 2 up at half time.
Despite our efforts in the second half, we let Berwick back in to the game, and they deservedly pulled one back.
However, we managed to apply some pressure and Alex grabbed our third. A few near misses in front of our goal were overcome, and a 3 – 1 victory was sealed.
Thanks to everyone for their support.
Training on Wednesday, 4.30pm at Anderson Park.
Next week, away v Beaumaris, 11am kick-off, Balcombe Park Reserve, Mel 86 C4.
Season:- P 16 W14 D1 L1 Gls For 78 Gls Ag 14.
