Round 1 - U15 Girls

Congratulations to Lee and the girls today in a hard fought and well earned 2 goals to 1 win against Peninsular Strikers at Frankston in, what I would have to say, were the worst football conditions I have seen for quite some time...gale force winds, bitterly cold and wet. If the parents thought it was cold in the stands under cover by the club rooms spare a thought for the girls out on the park who were expected to play football in these unbelievable conditions. The opposition however were not aware that we had a wee man from Scotland in charge who thought the weather resembled a mid summer day back home as he guided the girls to their first win of the season.

The girls fought and ran hard and it was great to see their determination to be first to the ball or lay in some solid tackles. With the wind behind us Adrianna and Carmen calmly took their chances after some nice team work to give us a 2-0 nil lead at half time. The second half was all about defending the lead as Peninsular Strikers and a gale force wind persistently tested the girls. Whilst the Strikers got a goal back the Rovers were also unlucky not to score as we had a couple of close chances. It was unreal to watch the girls attempt to take goal kicks as the wind blew what should of been a stationery ball back towards them. When the final whistle blew the girls were very happy to take a 2 -1 win and to get shelter from that wind!

Training is on again at Donvale reserve this Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm.

I will send the seasons fixture and a roster of game duties for parents later this week. Thanks to Jim (Ellens dad) for bravely accepting the linesman duties today.

Next Sunday we play at home against Brunswick Zebras at 1.45pm.

Catch you all at training during the week.
