Saturday 21st June V Mooroolbark.
Total Domination from start to finish.
From the warm up it was evident the boys were up for it. With Tillman back in the team we had the silky skills and added height that would prove decisive.
Throughout the game there was never more than 4 minutes between goals such was the domination that the team showed. Attack after attack the shots rained in on a beleaguered Mooroolbark goalkeeper who showed tremendous guts when facing direct shots on goal.
Inevitably the first goal opened the floodgates when Spyros on 4 minutes shot past the keeper after a great move down the right. He quickly followed up with another a minute later which was a great poacher’s goal.
The team were sensing blood and the pace was relentless with Tillman often controlling proceedings from midfield with sharp passing to either flank. On the 9th minute Jack followed up with two quick goals followed up by Spyros for his third on 11 minutes.
Not to be outdone Jack slammed home his third on 15th minute which was followed in on 17th minute by a great shot from Alexandre for his 1st of the game and 7th of the season.
The whole team were pushing forward so much so that on the odd occasion that Mooroolbark were getting out of their half there was just one defender to help push the ball back. That was Aaron who as usual was coping superbly in his natural role of centre back.
Tillman was showing great skill with a lovely flick over the heads of the defence which was caught on the volley by Jack only to see the goal keeper catch the ball. Many shots on followed especially from Josh and Cheyne who were keen to get in on the action.
Ryan, Christos and Michael were all linked to great moves with the ball being moved quickly. The score would have been added to had the boys found the corners instead of that uncanny knack of hitting the keeper straight on! Still it was added to on 22 minutes with Jack grabbing another brace to take his haul to 5 so far.
Tillman got his just deserts for his efforts by sealing half the first half on the 24th minute with a rocker of a shot to leave Doncaster 10-0 up.
Second half started much the same way with fast paced attacks resulting in Spyros and Jack starting off the half in the same way they did the first adding the 11th and 12th goals.
Dion who played a great role in Goal in the first half was released to show his determination down the left and soon showed how good he is on the loose ball slotting home his first and 13th of the season.
This was followed in by Cheyne with a super right foot shot on the outside of his boot the Josh got in on the action as well. Tillman was playing shots in and took it upon himself with increasing venom to scare the defence. By shear will one of these bullets got through the red wall of players to bring him his second and Doncaster’s 16th.
Josh and Michael rounded off the game at 18-0 but not before poor Cheyne; whose original shot was goal bound before a defender handled it; had his penalty hit the post and his quick reaction shot in the back of the net was disallowed by an overzealous ref (me!) for not being touched by another player. Oh well you have to be fair even when you do not want to be!
Well done to the boys and to the coach for another excellent performance.
Train Hard, Play Fair and Have Fun.
