Round 9 - U12C - Match Report

A tough slog for a win in the rain against South Springvale following the close one against Richmond last Wednesday. Parents also have to be congratulated for their enthusiastic support despite the damp conditions.

Once again there was very little scoring through our usual attacking game through constructive play. This time it was not for lack of trying with a number of breaks up the left by Todd and Steven S.. Overall, play in the first half was generally “scrappy” which seemed to suit the opposition in their kicking past our defence and running through putting our boys on the defensive. Chris D. certainly earned his keep in covering work today. The breakthrough came at the 18 minute mark from a mid-field play starting with a chip from Branford to Aaron who fed the ball between the defenders to give James a clear run at the opposition goalie.

The second half saw the boys settle down with a number of good breaks which they were unlucky not to capitalise on including a couple of opportunities missed through being off-side. South Springvale’s attacking game also began to hit its stride but was stalled by the boys’ spirited defence.

Special mention for Cameron (the second time in a week) with his cool decision making under pressure keeping the door shut on South Springvale and Todd McCarthy along with Steven Sercia for their unrelenting pressure up the left wing.
