Sunday 25.05.08 Round 5 - vs Hoppers Crossing
After a very convincing win last week at home 8-0 vs Dandenong Eagles this away game to Hoppers Crossing should’ve been a stroll in the park. Unfortunately soccer is a funny sport where any team on the day can produce miracles. Donny were missing five players and had only one substitute but what a substitute as young “squirt” as she loves to be called (Kariah White) most certainly scored the goal of the year via a volley just outside the big box. Similarly, Renee drove (a dead ball) free kick from out-side the box high up in the top corner to make it 1-0 minutes earlier, very very late in the game.
The first half was very poor. The second half however was a different story. Tessa Sernio was moved to the centre and was instrumental in many attacking moves. Others deserving mention are Renee for her continuous pressure and winning of the ball. Young Natasha Lusi who has been down off late was extraordinary in the second half when we needed her most with her countless attacks and crosses from the left wing. In addition Supryia Lal who was awesome in the back line.
Hoppers Crossing defended in numbers and together with their keeper in form they were exceptionally hard to break down. In the second half Doncaster had the opposition pinned in their back third and was not until the end when two extraordinary strikes at goal (as previously mentioned) gave us the deserved rewards.
Do not miss this weeks match against Brighton who are 4th and very competitive for 11.15am kick off at Anderson Park.
