Doncaster Rovers 2 - Croydon City Arrows 1
Today seemed to be a game of different teams playing each of the halves.
Todd’s excellent strike and goal from a free kick was the main offensive highlight in what was mainly a defence focused first half. Croydon came out very determined and kept our boys off balance with constant pressure and generally being first to the ball. Strong defensive play by Cameron, Christian, Branford and Stephen kept the score to 1-1 going into the break.
The second half saw a change in the boys in both spirit and fight. Croydon lifted an increment in attempting to break through but the boys matched and exceeded this. Hard to single out boys as they all fought so well with Liam and Derek being notable in their change of spirit.
The winning penalty by Stephen Burton came about because of the constant stress placed on Croydon by the boys throughout the second half. Another 10 minutes and I suspect the boys would have broken through again. A win to be proud of.
