Round 7 - U15 Girls

After a long weekend and a well earned rest from football it was game on for our girls at Anderson Park today against the tough and always competitive Keilor Park.

With a strong large squad and solid preparation the girls and coach Lee were raring to go but football can be a strange game and within 15 minutes the team found themselves 2-0 down. The opposition bench was gloating and we were all shocked but we new once things settled down we would start playing football and the goals would come. Indeed they did, as the girls bounced back with 2 goals late in the second half for a competitive 2-2 score at half time.

Lee had a very direct and tactical chat with the girls at half time and that combined with whatever Lou and Susan put in those oranges and snakes resulted in a remarkable turnaround that saw the girls play a dominating second half of what can only be called "beautiful football". They went on to score 4 goals to nil in the second half and every girl played their part in a great team effort. The defence made a commitment at half time not to allow any more goals to be scored, the midfield ran hard, won possession and were passing the ball around at will whilst the forward line was clinical in its finishing. All the goals were fantastic in terms of the team passing and build up whilst the finishing by Nat and Jordan was brilliant... the video replays would have been sweet.

This 6-2 win has moved us into third place on the ladder (refer below) and was a critical victory as we head into the final games of the first half of the season. If the girls can win (at worst draw) the next 2 hard games against Booroondara and Port Melbourne then they will be well placed at the half way mark.

Highlights today were :-
Natashia and Jordan both scoring a "Hat Trick" each and what great goals from build up to finish they all were...
Adriana for filling in as temporary goal keeper for Holly who was sick...and for her fantastic second half courageous saves at the feet of the opposition.
Natashia and Cassandra for their support and composure on the ball.
Izabella and Kelsy for their determination to run, tackle and win the ball at all cost
the defence was hard at it as usual, especially after the initial shock of the first 15 mins
Jordy for a brilliant long run late in the game where she took on all defenders only to be fouled by the last defender in the box where the referee awarded a definite penalty.
Ellen for being brave enough to step up to the penalty as the coach demanded (especially as she was rushed off the bench)
Christina Morabito for a most solid game at left back after coming off the bench
the large squad of girls who were bravely patient on the bench...any of us who have played sport know how it feels to sit on the bench when all you want is to be out there playing. The great thing is that every single one of them played well and did there job as instructed by Lee when they came on...well done girls.
A big Happy Birthday to Katherine for this week
