Round 4 - U15 Girls

Our players put on another great display today at Anderson Park but unfortunately went down 1-0 to Berwick City. Our commitment, tackling and passing was again a highlight and the girls certainly deserved more from the game than the result shows.

Berwick had a very talented forward line but our defence was superb except for a very unfortunate soft goal. Thanks to Rachel who agreed to play a central defender role which is not her natural or preferred position but she did a great job in strengthening and adding pace to our defence. We went down 1-0 after about 15 minutes and despite having many chances to score for the remainder of the match we missed some clear chances including one on one opportunities against the goal keeper. We are creating great opportunities but need to convert these to goals! This is something we will need to work on and I am sure as the season goes on the girls will rectify this and become a formidable team that takes its chances. We also need to work on our throws from the sideline as foul throws resulted in more than 8 turnovers in the match which is unacceptable and shows a lack of concentration under pressure, especially given all the girls have the know how and have practiced this often at training.

Highlights from this weeks game:-
The defence made up of various players throughout the match was brilliant. Well done Liz, Rachel Narin, Ellen, Katherine, Christina, Adriana and Holly
Well done to the Jernigan twins for their confidence, commitment and contribution when given their chance on the pitch.
Great running and fighting spirit of all the girls who never gave up.
I will talk to Lee this week about working at training on our shooting and goal finishing...if we can get this right we will start to move up the ladder and challenge the top teams

See you all at training on Tuesday 7pm at Donvale Reserve.
