Round 3 - U11 A Boys

"Thrilling finish at Anderson Park see Doncaster Rovers through"
Doncaster Rovers 2- South Melbourne 1

Another sunny day welcomed our team as they prepared for their toughest challenge yet, South Melbourne at Anderson Park. Despite a growing list of injuries, it was a confident start for the U11As, with promising play by our midfield Jack S., Jonathan, Stefan and James M. ultimately leading to a move forward in the 11th minute that Alexander neatly slotted past the keeper for the first goal. James S., Christian and Nick were holding stalwart in the back, and despite three or four clear chances for Doncaster, the score line remained unchanged by the half time. The second half however saw our boys let South Melbourne back into the game. The opposition was determined to get to the ball first and they mounted increasingly dangerous attacks.
Spiros, Tilghman helped support the team and tough spirited play by our backline Ben, Christian, Jack T., and a spectacular display by Dion in the goal square managed to keep South Melbourne in check. However it was only a matter of time until South Melbourne finally broke through with the equalizer 5 minutes from the end. In a nail biting finish with the ball moving up and down the pitch frenetically, Stefan broke away on the right wing past 2 defenders, and with a deft dummy, scored the winning goal in the very last minute. Doncaster 2- South Melbourne 1. A gritty tough game lacking some of the finesse we are growing accustomed to see from our boys, but they stuck to it and ground out an important result.
