Saturday 26th July v Brighton.
Twelve Goal Haul keeps the 100% record and 144 goal tally!
Without Cheney and Aaron the boys were once again without a substitute but they were up to the challenge. Brighton started well showing that they were not going to be a push over and attacked from the off. Doncaster however replied and within a minute Alexandre pounced on a Spyros pass to make it 1-0.
Within another minute Spyros made it two when Michaels throw-in from the right was fed through by Josh and Spiz toe poked it home 2-0.
Then less than a minute later shock horror a Brighton attack down the left was not stopped by the defence and a left foot shot went through Dion’s legs 2-1. Three goals in the first three minutes!
Play was moving at a fast pace with attacks going both ways. Brighton players were hard in the tackles but Doncaster was moving the ball well. The boys were spreading the ball left and right and were rewarded in the fifth minute with a free kick on the left. Tillman lined up to take it and a communication breakdown saw Alexandre hit the ball straight at a defender. Luck would have it that it rebounded back to Tillman whose pass into Jack saw him hit the ball straight at the keeper and Alexandre played poacher to snatch his second and Doncaster’s third 3-1.
Play was getting very competitive in the mid-field and Brighton were working hard down our left side of defence. Several attacks were being handled by Ryan and Michael but some of the mid-field were slow to get back and support which was making it harder than it should have been.
On 9 minutes a quick break from the centre saw the ball go to Jack on the left. He looked and saw Tillman inside and with a flick of his right foot the ball went through and Tillman made no mistake burying it in the right hand bottom corner. 4-1.
Doncaster added the fifth goal on 11 minutes when a corner was whipped in and saw Jack side foot saved by the keeper and the rebound hit against the bar by Josh. The ball fell to Spyros who stabbed home at the near post from two meters. 5-1.
The half finished off with Jack finishing off a great run by Josh slotting home a neat side foot goal to make it 6-1.
The second half started with Brighton challenging hard for the ball again but the boys were motivated by a stirring half time speech from Peter and had better shape. Dion who had switched with Christos in goal went on one of his twisting runs down the right and passed into Tillman who unselfishly passed across to Josh who unluckily saw his shot hammer against the woodwork again and was slotted home by Tillman 7-1.
The game came alive then with Doncaster pushing hard and once again an attack down the right finished when Jack passed into Tillman whose shot was saved only for the fast paced Ryan to slide in and push it past the keeper. 8-1.
After 5 minutes another right side attack saw Tillman snatch the ball from the keepers grasp and Dion snuck in for the loose ball to make it 9-1.
Five minutes passed with Jack now in defence making some timely tackles and accurate passing out to mid-field and beyond and the boys passing left and right spreading Brighton out. A corner was taken by Alexandre from the right and it slide by all of the players to find its way into the net for a great solo goal and his hat trick! 10-1.
On twelve minutes Brighton broke from mid-field. Spyros was last man in defence and hit his clearance ball straight at the Brighton attacker. The rebound fell directly in front of him and he was bearing down on goal when Spyros managed to recover and put in a timely tackle.
On fifteen minutes a pass from Alexandre to Jack in defence was cut out and Brighton were away. The player shot from long distance and the ball hit the cross bar only to rebound against Christos as he turned and end up in the net! 10-2! First time this year we have let in 2 goals.
Doncaster responded in great fashion with a quick pass from Michael to Dion who once again twisted through and finished coolly 11-2.
The boys wrapped up the game when Josh who was still looking for his first went one on one with the keeper. His close effort was saved and Tillman calmly controlled then stabbed the ball home for Doncaster’s twelfth and his Hat Trick 12-2.
