Round 5 - U10 Yellow - Match Report

Rovers take sting out of Comet’s tail!

Saturday 24 May (home) v Casey Comets.

Basking in their unbeaten start to the season, we welcomed the also unbeaten Casey to our fortress at Anderson Park.
Having 15 boys ready for selection immediately gave the coach his first headache, with every boy worth his place in the starting line up. His other headache was controlling his right-hand man, Carlos, after his tactical brain had worked overtime in bringing the Champions League trophy back to Old Trafford!
An even opening to the game eventually brought the first chance to Rovers, with the rebound breaking to Alex who calmly chipped into an empty net.
No real clear cut chances followed and we went in at half-time one up.
Continual interchanges didn’t help the flow to our game, but we finally doubled our lead when neat, skillful play from Yanni left Josh to slot home the second.
Casey continued to battle hard, creating a couple of their own chances which resulted in a goal line clearance from Alex.
Kirk dealt with the few occasions in goal he was called upon, and
again we looked good down the right with Matt and Matthew combining well, whilst Johnny and Lachie equally worked well down the left.
Through the centre, Jeremy, Anton, Jonathon M, Jonathon S and James fought strongly, whilst Jeremy was ever reliable as last man. Jacob played well in his unusual role out of goal, and Alex continued his impressive goal a game, taking him to 6 for the season.
Jason and Yanni both provided the inspiration that gave us the
2 – 0 win and four straight victories.
Another determined performance, well done boys, and thanks to the parents for their support.
The coaches’ final headache will be wishing Doncaster Rovers to actually get beat. They play Leeds in the play-off final tomorrow at Wembley. Let’s hope for promotion for the Mighty Whites!
