12 A v Oakleigh
The 12A's travelled to Oakleigh on the back of a comfortable 6-0 win last week, and looked to consolidate on that result aginst stronger opposition this week. With both teams similarly placed on the ladder Oakleigh were desperate to come away with a result.
There were some key positional changes this week with Tom being moved into a holding midfield role and Cameron being put into the right side of attack. From the kick off Rovers looked to maintain possession and were spreading the ball around the pitch intelligently. The space out wide was being expoited very well, with the new combination of Jake and Cameron on the right side of the pitch looking extremely effective.
An Early penalty claim earned us a free kick on the very edge of the box with the late tackle being judged to have been just outside of the area. Cameron stepped up to take the free kick and calmly placed it into the top corner for an early lead. The boys continued to show determination and hunger for the ball, and looked determined to score more.
The 2nd goal came shortly after, with Cameron converting with a sensational strike from an awkward angle. The power and placement of the strike was simply too much for the Oakleigh keeper who could only watch the ball fly into the corner of the net. Cameron claimed his hat trick with a strike from an identical position, but this time hitting the ball with his left foot.
The boys controlled possession and the back three of Adrian, Terry and Mike cut out the balls Oakleigh attempted and switched defence into attack quickly. Josh and Liam stepped up a gear this week with some impressive play in midfield.
Cameron scored his 4th in the second half to round out an exceptional and clinical goalscoring display. Harry looked comfortable slotting into central midfield controlling and directing the play from the middle of the pitch. Tom was beginning to impose himself on the game after being moved out to left midfield and was on the receiving end of a pass from Cameron to slot home with a cool finish.
After a free kick awarded to Oakleigh a misdirected kick fell straight to Tom who lobbed the ball from distance with the keeper stranded to make the score 6-0. There were still some great chances left to extend the lead, with Stephen and Stefan both very unluck to have missed, and Damien attempting some great solo runs from midfield.
The final score was 6-0, with the boys putting on their best performance so far this season. The boys now prepare for their big clash against undefeated Richmond next week at Anderson Park.
