Rovers' Press Release: New Director of Coaching

“DONCASTER ROVERS SOCCER CLUB; FORGING A UNIQUE BRAND & VISION OF THE FUTURE OF FOOTBALL IN VICTORIA!”

Doncaster Rovers has a ‘unique’ idea that a football club should be and offer more than what has traditionally occurred in Australia for way too long. The plans were simple, to develop a truly professional and self funding and sustainable football program that could service the club stakeholders and immediate community all year round. The plans were simply sampled from and based around the internationally acclaimed Football ‘super clubs’ of Europe and South America. With the co operation of the ambitious and innovative pioneering foresight of a club like Doncaster Rovers we now see the genesis of something inimitable. The decision to come together was made easy when most of the ‘groundwork’ already holds fast at Doncaster Rovers Soccer Club:

-One of the largest junior football memberships in Victoria
-New and improved football facilities and amenities
-Continuity and stability at committee, financial and leadership levels
-Plans for the growth of the club through further facility development on site and with the accompaniment of local interest groups for ‘state of the art’ artificial turf pitches and indoor facilities.

The new models within the existing core business of the club, features a variety of new initiatives and programs, to name a few we envision the following plans;
The recruitment of quality ‘Heads of Coaching’ to facilitate the professional development and education of current coaches and preparation of all junior players at the club.

The restructuring of the coaching and playing pathways at the club in order to maximise participation, enjoyment and develop and nurture excellence through professionalism and knowledge – creating the vision of establishing the best access for juniors to further representative duty at state and national teams, junior super leagues and seniors premier leagues.

The provision, access and equity to a variety of developmental training academies suitable to all levels of development based around the technical, tactical, psychological and physiological capacities of a player which will include; tailored training regimens, pre season talent identification camps and clinics and complete player analysis tracking development and potential of playing personnel.

A dynamic and exciting calendar of tournaments, events and high level competitions to cater for all levels and abilities & all year round playing opportunities through a variety of initiatives - Summer 5 a side football programs and courses, mini world cups, Futsal competitions, 7 a side, beach and street soccer titles and events.

The establishment of a customised, development oriented, bi annual international touring calendar offered to teams in age groups and skill levels throughout sister clubs in Asia, South America and Europe.

The import of at least two international ‘marquee’ players from Brazil for mentoring, coaching, promotion, education, cultural exchange opportunities and playing purposes.

NEW DRSC DIRECTOR OF COACHING: Milton Sakkos

PROFILE:

My own background recently has been heavily dominated by my role as the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Coaching, Development & Elite Performance for all Vikings and Victorian Vipers Futsal operations throughout the state.

I have a senior football licence qualification and an internationally accredited elite Futsal licence from Brazil. My formal education and professional academic history and knowledge base is essentially within the Human Movement & Performance domain of sport and related studies. My ‘Masters’ was fundamentally centred on the design, implementation and performance analysis of athletes inside of the football/ futsal sphere of development and excellence.

My own involvement in football over the last 15 years as an educator, coach and director of performance has allowed me the opportunity to travel and coach overseas, attend international events and work from the grass roots of the code all the way through the elite state and national teams at youth and senior levels.

Highlights along the way have been National Championships at a variety of age levels for male and female teams in both Futsal and Football with representative Victorian teams and my own previous and current clubs and schools. However, my experiences with the “Futsalroos” over the last FIFA World Futsal Cup in China, 2004 and the Hyundai World 5 a side Championships at the FIFA World Cup in Germany, 2006, are the standout memories…
