DONCASTER ROVERS U9’s
‘ The Blues Twos’
‘Blues play like gladiators to defeat the Lions’
Saturday 21 July (Away)
v. Boroondara Lions
Down to only 9 available players, we arrived to play the Lions on a pitch that would certainly enable utilising the vast areas of space, whilst the goals would have made Mark Schwarzer look small!
Despite going 1 – 0 down within the first few minutes, we soon turned things around against a team we had drawn 0 – 0 with in the first game of the season.
Every player played their part and by half-time we were 3 – 1 up, Jonathon with 2 and Josh 1.
An early 4th goal from Josh in the second half only served to inspire the Lions as we took our foot off the ball. Within 10 minutes they had battled back to 4 – 4.
With 6 minutes to go, the B2s found a second wind, and with the parents cheering them on, netted an amazing 3 goals to seal a tremendous 7 – 4 victory.
This was by far our best performance of the season, especially so with the way we fought back when our backs were against the wall.
Jonathon with 4 was magnificent, whilst Josh worked hard with 3.
Every player should be proud of their effort. Kirk was again confident in goal and had no chance with any of their goals, making a number of important saves. James, Lochie and Jeremy were outstanding in defence with the way they tackled and attacked the ball.
Alex, playing an unfamiliar game just in front of the defence, was calm under pressure and supplied our attack with the chances to score. Peter and Jack both showed how they have improved over the season, giving us the width in midfield, getting stuck into tackles and providing neat interchanges of passes when they could.
Great effort boys, you should be proud of your performance!!!!
Next week we are at home (at last), 10am kick off against Glen Waverley.
