Saturday 23 June (Home)
v. Doncaster Rovers B1s
We entered the home game against Doncaster Rovers B1s with a full squad of 12 to pick from, and no pyjamas in sight!!!
In the first half, we took the game to the B1s. We tackled well and looked to create space as much as possible. Jonathon proving strong in the middle of midfield, Ari and Alex providing telling passes, and Josh providing the clinical finishes to convert the pressure. In fact, a chant of ‘Shearer, Shearer’ rang out from our impartial referee, Jim, when Josh slotted his 4th goal for the half.
The first half was a very determined display. Again, our defence limited the B1s to only a few shots, getting in challenges and not enabling them any time on the ball. Justin, Jeremy and Lochie all worked well in the backline, whilst Kirk dealt with anything that came his way.
The 4 – 0 half-time score was still no reason for complacency in the second half.
The second half was much more even, both teams creating opportunities. Jack and Alex grabbed one each, and Josh bagged his 5th of the game on his return. The B1s deservedly got on the score sheet three times.
It was pleasing to see James, Peter and Chris continue to develop both their confidence on the ball, touch and willingness to get stuck into their tackles with more determination.
The final result was a 7 – 3 victory. We looked much more solid all over the pitch, created plenty of scoring opportunities and took our chances well.
Great effort boys!!!!
Next week we face Ashburton away, 10am kick-off at Warner Reserve, Melway ref 60 E10.
C’mon the B2s
